Robotics Coaching

Chosen by Megan McKellar

Building a robot begins with an idea—and grows through experimentation, problem-solving and the confidence to try again. With the opening of iCAST and its Robotics Arena, interest in robotics at Branksome has doubled. Dedicated coaching helps turn that enthusiasm into deeper learning, connecting classroom concepts with the challenge of designing, building and programming robots.

Robotics coaches Auri Cormier and Lisa Nie are working with our students this academic year. Your gift will help extend their involvement into the next academic year, building on the momentum already underway. Bringing experience in engineering, space robotics and competitive robotics, they offer students both technical guidance and inspiring examples of women pursuing futures in STEM. Working alongside faculty, they currently support the vision and development of our co-curricular robotics program, including our new Grades 6-8 Robotics program, bridging Junior and Middle School for the first time. Our Grades 6-8 students utilize the VEX IQ robotics system.

Additionally, they support our Senior (Grades 9-12) robotics team, which leverages the VEX V5 system.

Through robotics, students learn to think critically, collaborate and persevere when a solution does not work the first time. Your support will help sustain this learning—and give more girls the opportunity to see themselves as designers, engineers and innovators who can shape the technologies of tomorrow.
